What to wear to a holiday party when it's cold af

Hello readers! (aka my mom and like two friends)

Today's post will be on an outfit I wore to see a ballet a few weeks back.

I could make an entirely different post about how shitty the ballet was and how I was sad that I am not a professional ballerina and how my ankle is messed up and how I need surgery and how my childhood dreams have been crushed but I'll just focus on the outfit for now.

Luckily in the midst of my quarter life crisis of realizing my wasted potential, my mom was there to take pictures of me and that was enough to quickly forget my problems (that and the hot chocolate she bought me after the show).

This outfit wasn't intended to be holiday themed. I was mostly cold and didn't feel like doing my hair but I think it turned out pretty well. The ballet bun was my subtle jab to the dancers onstage to make sure they knew that at one point I could do what they were doing but at the ripe age of 20 I have the body of a 65 year old. They probably didn't notice but lets pretend they did.

At first glance it looks like I'm either going to a funeral or I am just cold and dead inside (the latter is true).

I got to take out my favorite black trench coat with leather details on the belt and on the underside of the collar. Don't worry, I don't normally pop my collar for the hell of it, this is me trying to show you the subtle leather on the collar, but you still can't really see it so here I am left looking like a douche.

You can see in this pic that there is indeed a pop of color in this outfit. I bet the suspense is killing you...

Ta da!! Under all the black I had a bright red skirt on! I'm always about keeping the mystery alive.

Well now that the mystery is over, here is a full frontal of my outfit. 0 to 100 real quick.

I found this cool background to pretend that I'm a professional model who is in deep thought while this picture was taken but in reality it was a heater and I was burning my hands. Do it for the blog!

Well there ya have it folks, my outfit for days were you need to be festive but all you really want to do is be in bed. I actually bought this skirt in the spring and it is most likely intended for the warmer months because of the crochet detailing on the rim but you can easily transition an outfit to the next season by adding a pair of tights and a turtle neck. Another good thing about turtle necks, besides the fact that it's like a scarf and a shirt in one, is that if you're allergic to wool like me, your neck won't break out in hives while wearing a wool coat. Double wammy!

For my makeup, I wanted to keep it somewhat simple. I wanted to accentuate my doe eyes and tried to make them as open as possible by using lighter colors on the eyelid. I was debating using a bright red lip to match my skirt but I decided that it would take away from it. I wanted the skit to be the center of the outfit so I went with a brown nude shade instead. I also paired the turtleneck with a nice y-chain necklace to add a pop but not too much of a statement.

Kept the accessories simple with black booties, that yes made my ankle hurt like hell, and a gun metal crossbody bag with fun hardware.

Thanks for reading another one of my blog posts! I still haven't become Jaclyn Hill famous, but the dream is still alive.

Happy a safe and happy holiday!

XOXO,

Tanya B
